Why did 8nOut show me a nearby-players banner?

If you open or come back to 8nOut while you're right next to a club that's already on our map, you might see a small banner above the map: "You're near [Club] — see who's Ready to play." Tap it to see who's there. This only happens if you'd already turned location on for something else on 8nOut — sending a Shout-Out by your live location, or adding a home table using "Use my current location." The feature never asks for location itself; it only checks a permission you've already given.

It's a close-range check, not a citywide one — you need to be right by the club, roughly 150 to 200 metres, not just somewhere in the same town. 8nOut only ever compares your position against clubs already in our own directory; it isn't reading your precise location for anything else, and it isn't tracking where you go.

The check happens entirely on your device, every time. Your position, whether it matched, and which club — none of it is ever sent to 8nOut's servers, logged, or stored anywhere, even for a moment. If location is off, or there's no club nearby, nothing happens: no banner, no error, nothing to see.

Don't want it for this club today? Tap "Don't ask again at this club today" under the banner — a different club can still show one later the same day. The ✕ dismisses it for the rest of this visit only. To turn the whole thing off, go to Settings on iPhone (under Privacy) or the Profile tab in the web app, and switch off "Detect when I'm near a club." It's on by default; switching it off stops the check completely, not just the banner.
