Can I change the race length, Spot, or location during a live match?

Propose a change sits on the live scoreboard, next to Share match. Tap it and you'll see three toggles — race length, Spot and location — turn on any combination of them in one go. Leave a field off and it isn't touched; the match keeps whatever it already had there.

You can both score, so why is this a proposal? Because race length, Spot and location change the match you both agreed to play, not just the score on the board. That always needs the other player's yes.

You can only propose while the current rack is still 0-0 — between racks, not partway through one. Try it mid-rack and the button doesn't disappear; it greys out with a line telling you why, right there on screen — for example, "You can propose a change once this rack ends — it's 2–1 right now." As soon as the rack you're in finishes, it's available again.

Your opponent sees exactly what you're proposing — the old value struck through, the new one next to it, for whichever fields you actually changed — and answers with Accept changes or Decline. Nothing about the match changes until they accept. A decline leaves everything as it was, and so does a rack that finishes before they answer — an outstanding proposal is cleared automatically the moment either of you scores, since the rack it was about isn't fresh anymore.

Changed your mind before they've answered? Withdraw the proposal yourself, any time — no explanation needed.

Once that proposal's out of the picture — accepted, declined, withdrawn, or cleared by the rack finishing — Propose a change is available again straight away, so you're never locked out from adjusting something else afterwards.

Race length can't be proposed below however many racks either of you has already won — 8nOut won't let a change undo a rack that's already been decided.

Changing Spot mid-match uses the exact same picker as setting one when a match starts — pick your new Spot, then tap Done to save it and go back to where you were; see What is a Spot, and how do I set one? for how the numbers work.

There's a cap: 6 changes per match, shared between you both. Only a change that's actually accepted counts against that limit for good — one that's declined or withdrawn doesn't, so going back and forth before you agree on something never eats into it.
