Why did my live match end without me tapping Finish match?
Every live match on 8nOut has a race to set for it — the number of racks a player needs to win. Reach that number and the match is over there and then. You do not need to tap Finish match to end it — 8nOut ends it for you, the moment the winning rack closes. It doesn't matter which of your two phones scored the winning rack.
Finish match is still there too, for ending a match early — if you need to stop before the race is decided. Either of you can tap it, and it takes effect straight away: the other player doesn't have to agree first. The finished match then shows which of you recorded it.
Either way, the same pop-up appears with the final score. If you both kept score, you both get two choices: End, or Start new match, with a line saying who recorded the result. Either of you can start a rematch from here. On an older match where only the player who started it kept score, that player gets both choices and the other player gets End.
Start new match copies over the race to, the alternate-break setting, and the venue and table from the match you just finished, so there is nothing to set up again. The one thing it always asks fresh is who breaks first — that is never decided for you.
If you both tap Start new match, you still get one new match, not two. The first tap counts, including its choice of who breaks first, and the other phone is taken into that same match. A short note on the board says it was already started, and who breaks first if play hasn't begun. Each finished match leads to one new match from this pop-up, no more. If that new match times out before you play it, start the next one the usual way: from a challenge, a connection's profile or their pin on the map.
One thing worth knowing: once you tap Start new match, you can no longer go back and correct the match you just finished. The Edit result link only lives on that match's own summary screen, for whichever of you recorded the result, and starting a new match replaces it with the new one. If a result needs fixing, do that first — before you start again.
