Why does the player list show sections now, and what does "New" mean?
Open Find players, or your Connections tab, and you'll see people grouped into four sections: New, Not yet connected, Pending, and Connected. Before, the list only sorted by who was online right then, so a total stranger and someone you've played for years could land in the same bucket. Grouping by relationship instead makes it easier to see, at a glance, who you can actually act on.
New means the person joined 8nOut within the last 14 days. It's a rolling window, not a fixed date — nobody sets it, and nobody has to remove it. Once those 14 days pass, that player simply moves out of New and into whichever section actually fits them, usually Not yet connected.
Pending covers any connection request that hasn't been answered yet, in either direction: Requested for one you sent, or Respond for one waiting on you. Connected means you've both accepted, and contact details unlock the same way they always have. If someone recently joined and you're already connected with them, or already have a request open, they show up in Pending or Connected rather than New — where you stand with someone matters more than when they joined. You'll still see a small New tag next to their name there, so that isn't lost.
Worth being plain about: New is visible to other members, not just you. If you joined in the last 14 days, other players can see a New tag next to your name — the same for everyone, and it never shows your actual join date, just the word New. It's there to help people notice and welcome newer members, not to track anyone. The same tag turns up wherever you're browsing players, too — a pin's detail sheet on the map, and a venue's player list — not just here in Find players and Connections.
On iPhone, your Connections tab also shows a short New players preview near the top when there's anyone new to see, with a See all link through to the full list.
