How does chat work on Android?
Chat on Android is always gated by an accepted connection — the same connect-first rule as everywhere else in 8nOut, whether it's a one-to-one conversation or a group. There's no way to message a stranger. Open the Chat tab to see your conversations, or start a new one from a connection's own row.
It's text only. There's no photo or file attachment — not a gap waiting to be filled, a deliberate choice, the same on Android as on iPhone and the web app. If you want to share where you're playing, say it in words, the same as you would at the table.
If someone's out of line, open the conversation's menu and choose Report, or Block if you want to stop hearing from them altogether — reporting doesn't block them automatically. On Android today, Report and Block work at the player level, from that menu, rather than on a single message — reporting one specific message is coming in a later update.
A message is deleted automatically 60 days after it's sent, from your view and theirs alike. We don't read your messages; if one is reported, a moderator can review it and the messages around it, and every such access is logged.
Chat on Android doesn't send a push alert yet — nothing shows up on your phone if 8nOut is closed or in the background. While you have the app open, it checks for new messages roughly every 30 seconds, so a reply can take a moment to appear. Reactions, typing indicators and read receipts (Sent/Read) aren't on Android yet either. All of this is coming in a later update.
